Correctly formatted text

Although in every case I have told the tale in my own words, I am
indebted for the originals to Campbell's "Popular Tales of the Western
Highlands," Leyden's Poems, Hogg's Poems, Scott's "Border Minstrelsy,"
Chambers' "Popular Rhymes of Scotland," "The Folklore
Journal," etc.

Italics in signatures

The signature is a "complete sentence," so period goes inside.

Location/date is one sentence (there's a comma), so a single italics markup pair is sufficient, and the period goes inside.

Upright (non-italic) numerals

We include the numerals in the italics. (Printers generally didn't have italics numerals.)

Right justified signatures

Signature is right-justified, so enclose it in no-wrap.

Line breaks in signature blocks

Location/date should remain on 2 lines, so enclose them in no-wrap to preserve that intention. In this situation, it's OK to put everything in one pair of no-wraps.
