Quotation marks
The entire sentence is italicized, so its period goes inside the markup tags. What makes this unusual are the quotation marks around the final word. If the entire italicized sentence had been in quotation marks, the quotation marks would go outside the italics markups. However, these quotation marks are part of what is italicized, so they go inside.
