Italicized for different reasons
There are four separate elements on that bottom line: mark them separately. "cf." is an abbreviation, so its period must be marked with it; the comma after "b" is a separator and goes outside any markups; the parentheses are not part of any of those elements, and should not be within any of the italics markups.
